Being kind to ourselves helps others learn how to treat you. As much as we struggle with our self-image, our inability to see who we truly are, which may be what we were raised to think about ourselves or exposed to in terms of trauma, whatever it may be, we have to learn to be kind to ourselves.
What I mean by that is to say nice things to yourself that you would say to others when they’re feeling discouraged and need encouragement or motivation. Start to say those things to yourself when you find yourself in a low point. The person who’s going to pick you up along with those who love and support you the most is going to be you. It requires you to be kind to yourself through your words and actions. That can include getting enough rest, eating well, working out, taking care of your body and being very kind and conscious of not just how you treat others, but how you treat yourself.
