People turn to the internet to find the things they need and want in life. Looking for a wellness provider; such as a therapist, yoga class or integrative specialist is no different. Search engines like google are peoples’ access that connects the world. Want to be successful at this access then you need a good internet reputation by working on your search engine optimization (SEO).
When thinking of SEO, remember the search engines are primarily interested in giving their customer the most relevant content. This is done by monitoring the traffic on your website, things like who is visiting, where are they coming from, and what if anything they are engaging with on your website. Knowing this we are going to talk about three major parts of SEO; Backlinks, traffic, and bounce rate.
Connecting Links to your direct website
Search engines have to shift through everything on the internet and figure out what is the most valuable information for though to engage in on you the site or page. So what Google and other search engine do is decide what sites are the most valuable and have a sense of expertise/authority on different subjects. It then believes that any website linked to those “experts” has authority on the subject.
So for example, I am trained in Racial Trauma Therapy (RTT). Google may come to see me as an authority on this subject….currently it doesn’t. But if for example, the founder of RTT linked to my website from hers then Google would assume I am a reliable authority on RTT.
Think of it this way; Google your name and credentials ie: Sharea Farmer, LCSW. What are the first results? Is it Linkedin, Facebook or some other social media platform? This is because Google currently thinks that these platforms are more of an authority on you than maybe even your own website.
If you searched for yourself and your website came up before these other platforms, good for you! You are on the right path with your SEO!….or you don’t have any social media platforms.
Driving Traffic and decreasing your bounce-back rate
Two other important things that Google takes into account when deciding how to rank your site are traffic and bounce rate. Traffic is simply how many people visit your site, how they get there, and what information they appear to be in search of. Self Care for Black Girls will help drive traffic to your website by getting your information out there.
Your bounce rate is essentially the percentage of visitors to your site who leave after viewing no more than the page they landed on. Google considers high bounce rates to be a sign that a site does not contain quality information that is relevant to the search terms. Self Care for Black Girls can help with your bounce rate by increasing the number of quality inbound visitors to your site. When searching for wellness providers on Self Care for Black Girls Collective, potential clients sort through many other providers before they decide to contact you or visit your website. In theory, because of this, the majority of people who visit your site through your Self Care for Black Girls Collective profile should be interested in learning more about you. They will be more likely to browse around and spend time on your site, thereby reducing your bounce rate. Google may then take this information and interpret it to mean that your website tends to contain the information people are looking for when they visit it.
