Today’s tip is one of the things I talk about with my young girls, which is to remember to acknowledge something special about yourself every single day.
Lot’s of people think affirming statements like that won’t help them. The truth is though, affirming statements are not about lying to yourself or trying to pretend. It’s about acknowledging and learning to be positive in your thinking and balancing that with your negative thinking.
Part of this one is for us to acknowledge something special about ourselves every single day. It can be simple, for example, today I love my little fake fro! That’s what I’m trying to go for because my locs are extremely long now, so what I did to get what I consider a “fro” is acknowledge that my hair looks really cute today. It is in a retwist kind of moment but I won’t be doing that for a while because these are gonna rock out for as long as I want.
Part of that is jokingly, but seriously, it helps me to acknowledge things about myself each day that not only make me feel special, but requires me to say things positively about myself. We say so many negative things about ourselves. If I asked you what you don’t like about your body or hair or face or life, the list could go on and on and on. It’s important to take a daily action to start increasing your positive thinking about yourself specifically.
Remember to take the time out of each and every day to acknowledge what makes you special. Today, I say you’re special just because you woke up this morning and you got through whatever thing has happened to you and you’re still here.
